The Composable Parachain

What is the Composable Parachain?

The Composable parachain is deployed on the Polkadot network, which itself serves as a crucial basis to underpin the infrastructure for modular and interoperable functionality. As the Composable Parachain continues to develop and reaches its full potential, all infrastructure and associated projects will benefit from its advanced functionality. As a Polkadot parachain, the Composable Parachain leverages Polkadot's value proposition as it builds out its vastly connected ecosystem. As such, the Composable Parachain will be highly secure, robust, and efficient and will be able to handle institutional scale throughput.

The Composable Parachain will provide solutions to several issues that currently plague DeFi as an industry. Instead of splintered cross-chain communication hubs, Composable brings a clear pathway for adaptive and scalable cross-chain communication across new and existing DeFi ecosystems.

What is the vision for the Composable Parachain?

Composable Finance is dedicated to improving the accessibility, quality, transparency, efficiency, and security of decentralized finance (DeFi): Any Money, Any Chain, Anywhere. We aim to achieve this by pioneering innovative Web3 user experiences in a trustless, non-custodial, and decentralized manner. Composable's technology stack enables and combines key services across different DeFi ecosystems and protocols, such as Ethereum, Polkadot, Kusama, Cosmos, and NEAR.

Polkadot

Polkadot itself serves as a critical basis to underpin blockchain infrastructure and its modular composability. To facilitate cross-ecosystem communication, a higher security environment is necessary to ensure such transfers and communication are not only issued from a source but also passed on to a routing layer that allows for a decentralized pathfinding methodology.

Security

Polkadot offers plug-and-play security, allowing Composable to focus on building its ecosystem and leaving the security to Polkadot’s validators. By leveraging parachains we do not have to recruit validators for security, which gives us more excellent finality guarantees and lowers the risk of cross-chain transaction failures.

The enhanced security through the Polkadot offering enables developers within the Composable ecosystem to support enterprises, governments, and TradFi organizations with a seamless gateway to DeFi. Users and developers can thus do more than just move their assets around between different applications on different chains that they select. By specifying their end goals, users and developers utilize Composable's infrastructure that orchestrates the most efficient pathway irrespective of chain or application. This is designed to result in the maximization of yield, and the most efficient deployment of functions across suitable ecosystems.

The Composable Virtual Machine (CVM)

Composable’s Virtual Machine (CVM) will be able to leverage the pallets from Picasso and Composable to facilitate the creation of non-custodial, natively cross-chain smart contracts. The CVM serves as a top-layer orchestration layer, capable of calling into existing applications and pallets across multiple ecosystems asynchronously. CVM applications will be deployable from any ecosystem housing the necessary satellite contracts and interpreter instances.

Centauri - Composable’s trustless bridging solution

Composable is integrated with Centauri, a trustless bridge that implements and expands the inter-blockchain communication (IBC) protocol outside of Cosmos. This will support cross-ecosystem communication between IBC-enabled blockchains, Polkadot, and other ecosystems such as Ethereum and NEAR Protocol.

How the Composable Parachain synergizes with Picasso?

After securing both parachains, we explored and developed strategies to leverage Polkadot while leveraging its canary network, Kusama. The idea for a dual-parachain narrative came about when we realized crypto networks are designed without a stable launch process. As such, they rely on testnets for stability and performance testing. In the case of the DotSama ecosystem, Kusama is treated as such a testnet even though its capabilities and potential span beyond simply being a testnet for Polkadot.

Furthermore, parachains of the Kusama network, such as Picasso, harness their unique value propositions. They provide the DotSama ecosystem with a novel incentivized framework that can be leveraged with the right strategy to expedite innovation. We identified valuable synergies between the two chains and believe that this strategy increases efficiency and unlocks the further potential of technology that is deployed across the Composable ecosystem.

Primary pallets are first built on Picasso and serve core functions necessary for any DeFi ecosystem to succeed, such as oracle services, and trustless bridging infrastructure. These core pallets can, via governance, graduate to the Composable parachain. Additionally, DeFi developers can utilize these primary pallets to enhance their products, enabling them to launch other unique solutions with native interoperability and modularity in mind.

We envision that in the long-term the Composable parachain will facilitate larger volume transfers as the higher security environment and institutional scale throughput of Polkadot will be perfectly suited, while the inherent synergies between Composable and Picasso will ensure optimal volume flow and liquidity distribution furthermore bolstered and facilitated by Pablo.
